Railroad crossing arms have lowered at Broadway in north Wichita, snarling the morning commute Thursday.

Authorities are encouraging motorists to alter their route because numerous vehicles — including school buses — are stuck at Broadway and 37th Street North until the malfunctioning crossing arms can be raised.

A Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said a technician is en route to correct the malfunction, which occurred before 7 a.m.
