Ralph died unexpectedly shortly after this photograph was taken by his friend and personal photographer, Jaime Oppenheimer. His funeral service was held at 932 Spaulding St. in Wichita, Kansas. Survivors include his son, Fred Fairman, of the Missouri State Fair and his daughter, Frieda Fairman, of the Freaky Fishy Traveling Circus. A memorial has been established with the Friends of the Fishy fund. (2000)
