Four children have been placed in protective custody after a officer checking on a reported home robbery found them in a bedroom with two adults who were under the influence of an unknown substance early Tuesday morning police said.

The officer was checking on a possible robbery in the 600 block of North Grove, north of Central, at about 3 a.m. Tuesday, Lt. Steve Kenney said. He found the front door unlocked, but had to force open a bedroom door when he heard people inside.

The two adults, ages 22 and 21, were taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment. The children — a 2-year-old girl and boys ages 5, 3 and 1 — were taken to the Wichita Children’s Home.
