Wheat quality down slightly from last year

Wheat quality in south-central Kansas was down slightly in 2012 compared to last year, but ahead of the 10-year average, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Test weights were 61.4 pounds per bushel this year, compared to 62.2 pounds in 2011 and 60.3 pounds for a 10 year average.

The wheat this year contained 11.8 percent protein, compared to 12.4 percent last year and 12.1 percent over the last decade.

Moisture was 11.4 percent this year, compared to 10.8 percent last year and 11.6 percent as a 10-year average.
