A vacant house was heavily damaged by fire in south Wichita early Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The fire was reported shortly before 1:30 a.m. at 1010 S. Main, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said. Fire crews had to take a defensive posture soon after arrival to keep the flames from spreading to surrounding buildings.

The fire was finally extinguished just after 2:15 a.m. No injuries were reported.

A cause and damage estimate have not been released.
