Police say an argument led to a man’s stabbing Tuesday night outside of Caldwell Elementary School, near Edgemoor and Boston.

Lt. Jose Salcido said three male teens were playing basketball at the school, 1441 S. Edgemoor, when the man, who is 18 or 19, approached and talked with them. The conversation turned into an argument and the man’s stabbing shortly after 8 p.m., he said.

Witnesses told police the three teenagers ran off to the west. An off-duty police officer found the victim lying near a sidewalk outside a fenced-in playground area south of the school, Salcido said at the scene. He did not offer additional details about the man’s injuries. He was taken to Wesley Medical Center with critical injuries, according to a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor.
