The Wichita Wingnuts rallied for a 10-4 win over the St. Paul Saints in their season finale, setting a franchise record with their 59th win on Monday at St. Paul, Minn.

The good news didn’t stop there — Wichita second baseman Jake Kahaulelio went 2 for 5 to win the American Association batting title with a .372 average, eight points in front of Grand Prairie’s Brian Myrow. Kahaulelio is the third Wingnut to win a batting title in the last five seasons.

On Friday, Wichita trailed St. Paul 3-0 before tying the game up in the second inning after Jessie Mier was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Steve Stanley singled and brought in two runs.

Wilson Batista’s double in the third inning brought home John Rodriguez for the go-ahead run.

Anthony Capra was the winning pitcher for Wichita, going five innings while giving up eight hits, four earned runs, three walks and striking out six.

Rodriguez, Batista and Mier each had two RBIs against St. Paul.

Wichita opens its best-of-5, American Association division playoff series against the Laredo Lemurs on Wednesday at Laredo, followed by Game 2 on Thursday in Laredo. The series comes back to Wichita for the final three games.
