About a dozen people gathered Saturday in east Wichita in a show of support for area law enforcement officers.
“They have difficult job, and we want to let them know the citizens of Wichita care about them and appreciate what they do,” said Christy Massell, one of the organizers. “It’s just a peaceful rally to support police and sheriff’s officers.”
The group, which has rallied before at the Sedgwick County Law Enforcement Memorial in downtown Wichita, gathered at noon Saturday at the Wichita Police Department’s Patrol East substation, 350 S. Edgemoor.
In recent weeks, members of the Occupy Wichita movement have held rallies to protest a recent surge in police shootings. Over the past year, five people have been killed and nine injured in confrontations with police.
