Two people from Parsons ran into trouble in northeast Wichita on Wednesday night, police said.
The 34-year-old woman and 69-year-old man were talking to two men they said they didn’t know when one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and demanded money and her car keys at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday near 12th Street and Hydraulic, Lt. Doug Nolte said.
He punched the woman in the mouth and she turned and ran toward her car. The second suspect punched the 69-year-old man, and the woman heard two shots as she was reaching her car.
The two Parsons residents were able to get away, Nolte said. They suffered minor injuries from being punched.
Officers found bullet fragments at the scene. Investigators are looking into why the two people from Parsons, a town 130 miles away in southeast Kansas, were in that part of Wichita at that hour, Nolte said.
