A 19-year-old man is in critical condition after a one-car crash in north Wichita late Wednesday night, authorities said.

The crash occurred just before 11:15 p.m. in the 3000 block of North Coolidge, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said. That is one block east of Amidon near St. Jude Catholic School.

The car drove through a ditch and struck a trash can in a yard, rolling onto its roof, the supervisor said. The man was taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis, with the ambulance crew downgrading his condition to critical en route.

Police suspect alcohol played a role in the crash, the supervisor said.
