A former East High School math teacher is due back in municipal court next week after he was found guilty of a lewd and lascivious act in an incident March 2 in downtown Wichita.

Calvin J. Andrews, 49, of El Dorado was arrested after three people told police he was masturbating in his parked vehicle at 430 E. Douglas. Andrews was sentenced July 18 to a six-month suspended jail term and ordered to pay a $200 fine plus $344 in court costs.

A hearing is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 455 N. Main, at which a judge will determine whether Andrews is complying with a court order to continue unspecified treatment.

Andrews pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor charge. He was also accused of public nudity, but that charge was dismissed. He is free on probation, a court clerk said.

Wichita school district spokeswoman Susan Arensman said Thursday that Andrews resigned from his position at East effective July 31. In March, the district suspended him with pay.

Andrews also taught part time in the math department at Butler Community College. Butler spokesman Ryan Entz said he was suspended with pay following his arrest. The suspension was lifted in July, he said, but Andrews is not teaching classes at Butler this fall.
