Next month’s art exhibit at Andover Public Library will showcase a local man’s love of the Kansas countryside filtered through a camera lens.

Wichita artist Bob Benson will share what he calls Kansas’ “wonderful tableau of colors, shapes and history” in “Kansas and Color!!” starting Sept. 1 at the library, 1511 E. Central Ave. in Andover. The monthlong photography show will feature images of rural Kansas, tree bark and windows and doors, Benson said.

The library’s art gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. Admission is free.

Benson, a computer consultant and university professor by trade, boasts 55 years of photography experience. September marks his second show at the library; the first was in 2010.

The art gallery features an ongoing showcase of work by local and regional artists. Chris Gulick and Martha Wherry, both of Wichita, will show paintings and sculptures in October, followed by an oil and watercolor exhibit by Wichitan Robert Carver in November, and wearable art by library assistant director Cheri Nienke in December. Oil paintings by Wellington artist Skeet Sirmons are on display through the end of August.

The library is seeking submissions for dates in 2013. Applications are available at www.andoverlibrary.org/APLArtGallery.htm. There is no cost to apply.

For more information about Benson’s or future shows, call 316-558-3500 or go to the library’s website.
