Blacksher propels Wingnuts to win

Derek Blacksher and two relievers combined on a three-hitter as the Wingnuts beat the Saltdogs 9-1 on Wednesday night in Lincoln, Neb.

Blacksher (7-4) gave up two hits and two walks 6 2/3 innings and struck out eight. Jared Simon retired the only batter he faced, and Dillon Wilson finished with two scoreless innings.

The Wingnuts broke open a tight game with seven runs in the eighth inning. Wilberto Ortiz opened the inning with a homer, Mark Wagner hit a two-run double, Jessie Mier hit and RBI-double and Jared McDonald had a three-run homer.

Greg Porter hit a solo home run in the fourth. Wagner, McDonald, Ryan Khoury and Mike Conroy each had two hits.

The victory allowed Wichita to maintain a 3 1/2 -game lead over Kansas City in the American Association Central Division.
