She won’t be a finalist for Babysitter of the Year.
Wichita police say a 35-year-old woman took nine children — ranging in age from infancy to 10 — to Towne East Square and dropped them off Tuesday night.
She then left to smoke meth.
A mall security guard spotted the group of unattended children sometime after 6 p.m. and learned what had happened when he checked on them, police Capt. Darrell Atteberry said. The babysitter was arrested when she returned to the mall shortly after 9:30 p.m. to pick up the children.
She was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Three of the children, ages 9, 8 and 6, were released to a parent. The other six children — ages 10, 8, 4, 2, 1 and infant — were placed in protective custody and taken to the Wichita Children’s Home.
