Sedgwick County Commissioner Karl Peterjohn held an early lead Tuesday over challenger Jeff Longwell.

Peterjohn, the incumbent in District 3, had gathered 55 percent of the vote in early returns. Longwell, a member of the Wichita City Council, had 44 percent.

Because there is no Democratic opponent in the November general election, the winner of Tuesday’s Republican primary will win the seat.
