Police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Tuesday morning at a south Wichita bar.

A 29-year-old man was shot in the chest shortly before 2 a.m. in the parking lot of The Place bar, 4859 E. Harry, near Harry and Oliver, Capt. Darrell Atteberry said. He was taken to Wesley Medical Center, where he was in critical condition early Tuesday afternoon.

Someone at the bar reported hearing a shot in the parking lot, Atteberry said, and when they went outside a large crowd was holding the victim down, urging him to stay down. There were more than 20 people in the parking lot when officers arrived, he said, but no one admitted to being a witness to the shooting.

Police have interviewed several people, but no arrests have been made.
