Wichita police are working the scene of a suspicious death at a Wichita home, an officer on the scene said Saturday morning.

A man in his mid-30s was found dead in a house in the 800 block of South Erie, between Hillside and Grove, shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday, Wichita police Sgt. Bruce Watts said. Police responded to a call for a welfare check at the address after a witness reportedly saw a woman running from the house. She was screaming and hysterical, Watts said.

Officers who arrived on scene a short time later found the man’s body inside the house, he said.

Police are investigating the death as a homicide, Wichita police Capt. Hassan Ramzah said at an afternoon media briefing at the scene. The man appears to have died from trauma, Ramzah said, but he did not give further details. Authorities have not determined when the man died, he said, but police think a neighbor saw him alive last night.

He is believed to be the resident of the house, Ramzah said.

As of early Saturday afternoon, police did not have any leads or a suspect description, Ramzah said. The woman seen running from the scene is being interviewed by police.

Ramzah encouraged anyone with information about the incident to call 911.
