When he heard drugs could be bought in a certain room at the Mark 8 on North Broadway, a 47-year-old man decided to get some.

His night went downhill from there, police say.

When the man was conducting a transaction with a group of men at the hotel at 1130 N. Broadway at about 3:30 a.m. Friday, Lt. Doug Nolte said, the dealers accused him of stealing drugs and a scuffle broke out. During the fight, someone pulled out a gun and shot the man in the leg.

He left the room, but didn’t call for a help. Someone who saw what had happened found a police officer at the QuikTrip at 730 N. Broadway and reported it.

The officer found the victim with a gunshot wound to his left leg. He was taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis, where he was treated for a through-and-through wound, Nolte said.

The victim isn’t cooperating, fearing retaliation from the drug dealers, Nolte said, so police do not have descriptions of the suspects.
