A Norwegian flight school purchased three Model 162 Skycatchers from Cessna Aircraft during last week’s EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis., the company said.
Executives from Pilot Academy of Sandefjord, Norway, said that Cessna’s decision to move the Skycatcher from a light sport category into the primary category to gain certification by Europe’s regulatory agency played a big role in the decision.
Pilot Academy’s CEO Frode Granlund said the plane is a good starter airplane.
“After spending some time discussing the 162 with (Skycatcher pilot) Zoe (Cunningham), I thought ‘Why buy one? I need three,’” Granlund said in a statement. “This is a fantastic aircraft with technology you don’t see in many trainers. It is a perfect fit for student pilots, and it is roomy. I’m six feet tall, and I fit in there with plenty of room. Two adults fit great in the cockpit.”
