A 37-year-old man has been charged with numerous sex crimes related to incidents involving his stepdaughter that prosecutors allege took place over nearly a decade.
The man, whose name is being withheld by The Eagle to protect the identity of the girl, is being held on $1 million bond in the Sedgwick County Jail. He is scheduled for an Aug. 9 preliminary hearing in Sedgwick County District Court on nine counts of various sex crimes, said Georgia Cole, a spokeswoman for the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.
The earliest alleged crime dates back to early 2003, when the girl was 7 years old, Cole said.
The man was charged last week with four counts of rape, two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, two counts of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.
Authorities were contacted last week after the man’s wife found photographs of him and her daughter and then talked to the girl about them, police have said. The man was questioned and then arrested.
The charges indicate the girl was abused from the age of 7 to the age of 16, with the most recent incident occurring last week.
