Authorities have identified an elderly man killed this weekend in a two-car car crash near Derby.
Richard Clyde Welliver, 88, died Sunday evening after his car collided with a maroon truck at 55th South and 143rd East, in rural Sedgwick County near Greenwich Road, sheriff’s Lt. Mary Mattingly said Monday. Welliver was driving his gold Oldsmobile eastbound on 55th when he ran a stop sign, authorities said Sunday. The truck was headed southbound on 143rd.
Welliver, a Rose Hill resident, died at the scene.
The driver of the truck, a 30-year-old Derby man, suffered minor injuries, Mattingly said. He was treated at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis and has been released.
The crashed is still under investigation, Mattingly said.
