An elderly man is dead following a two-car crash east of Derby in rural Sedgwick County, authorities say.

The accident happened around 5:15 p.m. Sunday at 55th South and 143rd East, near Greenwich Road. Sedgwick County sheriff’s Lt. Mary Mattingly said the elderly man was driving his gold Oldsmobile eastbound on 55th Street when he ran a stop sign and collided with a maroon truck in the intersection. He died at scene, Mattingly said.

The driver of the truck, a man in his 40s, was transported to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis with minor injuries. There were no passengers in either vehicle, Mattingly said.

The accident remains under investigation, she said. The identity of the elderly man has not yet been released.
