Police arrested a 59-year-old man on suspicion of driving under the influence after he led authorities on a brief car chase in his Mini Cooper late Friday night.

Wichita police Sgt. Bruce Watts said the man “was assisted out of his vehicle” at his home in the 800 block of N. Broadview after he refused to halt for officers near First and Hillside. The man drove his Mini Cooper more than a mile to his home, where he backed into a garage door twice before stopping.

The chase started shortly before 11:30 p.m. Friday and ended a few minutes later, a Sedgwick County dispatcher said Saturday.

The man was booked into Sedgwick County Jail on Saturday on suspicion of DUI and other charges, Watts said. Police think the man drove home to avoid having his car impounded.
