Operation Kidsafe will offer free digital fingerprinting and photography services at a two-day child safety event this week in Hutchinson.
Parents may have the identity of their children, ages 1 and older, recorded for safekeeping at home from 1-7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Midwest Superstore, 1100 E. 30th Ave. in Hutchinson. Parents will receive an 8 1/2-by-11-inch printout for each child fingerprinted and photographed using inkless, digital imaging. The technology is the same used by the FBI and other law enforcement.
The printout is part of a child safety kit, offered at no charge to caregivers. Information is not stored in a database, according to Operation Kidsafe. Parents leave with the sole copy of their child’s records, which may be given to law enforcement to aid in future investigations.
Adults with special needs are also encouraged to attend.
