A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of child abuse after a 5-month-old boy was brought to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis late last week suffering from seizures, police said.
The child was brought to the hospital from his home near Valley Center at about 11 p.m. Thursday, said Lt. Jeff Weible of the Exploited and Missing Child Unit. Doctors discovered bleeding on the brain and notified police.
The parents could not explain how the injury occurred, Weible said. The injury reportedly occurred at about 8 p.m. Thursday.
Additional investigation on Friday led to the arrest of the suspect, who is a relative of the injured child. The baby is in the pediatric intensive care unit.
