A man pointed a gun at police officers who came to his door after he reported that someone broke into his car early Monday morning.
He dropped the gun quickly when officers demanded it, said Lt. Steve Kenney. The incident occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. Monday in the 1000 block of East MacArthur, just east of I-135 in south Wichita.
The 73-year-old man called 911 and said someone had broken into his car. When officers arrived, he came out with a gun. Kenney said that he quickly obeyed commands to drop the weapon.
I would assume their weapons were displayed, Kenney said of the two officers who handled the call.
The man was booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
There have been five people killed and nine injured in eight confrontations with police in the past nine months. No officers have been injured.
