A 22-year-old Valley Center man committed suicide early Wednesday morning by stepping into the path of a train passing through the city, authorities said.
The mans body was found near the tracks in the 100 block of South Ash at about 7 a.m. by friends looking for him, Valley Center Police Chief Mark Hephner said. The man had made statements about going down to the tracks, he said, and was found behind grain elevators at the Andale Farmers Co-op in downtown Valley Center.
Authorities think the man was hit by a train that passed through town at about 5:35 a.m., Hephner said. But the crew of that train didnt realize someone had been hit.
