No, the Chinese are not “overpaying” for Hawker Beechcraft. They’re thinking long term, which is something American corporations gave up doing around 1970. China has a strategy. We have a gambling addiction at the Wall Street casino and no desire to go into rehab.

Sedgwick and Sumner counties and the city of Mulvane each have received more than $900,000 from the Kansas Star Casino since it opened. Why can’t Sedgwick County spend its amount on the Judge James Riddel Boys Ranch?

Don’t you just love it that our anti-tax governor allows us to use our tax dollars to help pay for airfares out of Wichita?

Michael O’Donnell can’t even fulfill his term on the Wichita City Council and expects people to vote for him for state Senate. What happened to all the things he promised his District 4 constituents?

Kansans for Kansas Inc.’s disrespectful and childish campaign mailing against O’Donnell convinced me that he’s getting my vote.

Judge Patrick Walters has his political signs all over the city in illegal places. You would think a judge of four years would know and obey the law himself.

You could tell that legislative candidate Pat Sloop is a Democrat (July 11 Local & State). When asked how she would change the state’s tax laws, she gave the old, tired Obama line: “Have the wealthy do their share.” What exactly is their fair share?

Mitt Romney went to the NAACP convention and spoke to the audience. President Obama was a no-show. It certainly showed who has class and who doesn’t.

Romney should get high marks for addressing the NAACP, but low marks for delivering a message better delivered to a GOP assembly.

Obama recently discussed some of the mistakes he has made. In my opinion, his biggest mistake was not prosecuting the members of the previous administration who authorized and carried out torture programs. These cowards should have been tried and sent to prison as war criminals.

Liberals won’t be happy until “the wealthy” are paying 120 percent of the income taxes paid to the government. Of course, that’s impossible. It’s as impossible as making a liberal happy.

I am sick and tired of hearing people who can afford to pay $30,000 a plate at political fundraisers whine about paying their taxes. Shut up and pay your taxes like the rest of us.

“Tax the rich” may make a good bumper sticker, but it is a disastrous policy. We want everyone to climb the ladder.

With the release of the report on Penn State involving Jerry Sandusky, let us remember that right is not always easy, but right is always right. If you see abuse, take action to stop it.
