A 14-year-old boy was placed in protective custody Thursday after police were told he had been handcuffed in his bathroom for several hours, authorities said.
Someone called the Department of Children and Families to report the boy being handcuffed, said Lt. Jeff Weible of the Exploited and Missing Child Unit. Two detectives went to the house in the 1500 block of North Pinecrest, northeast of 13th and Oliver, to check out the report, he said.
The boy was not handcuffed when they arrived, Weible said, but when he told them pretty much the same story — that he had been handcuffed to the towel bar in the bathroom for several hours — authorities decided to place him in protective custody.
“He was not injured whatsoever,” Weible said of the teen.
No arrests have been made, Weible said, and the investigation is continuing.
