The license of a day care home in Russell where a baby was injured last month has had its license suspended, state officials said today.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment issued an emergency order of suspension against Heather Ragene Ross Day Care Home in Russell.
In a document ordering the suspension, KDHE Secretary Robert Moser said that a four-month-old infant was transported to a Wichita hospital last month because of injuries consistent with abuse and shaken baby syndrome. An investigation by KDHE into the cause of the injuries indicated that they occurred at the day care home.
KDHE has the power to suspend a day care license without a hearing if it thinks it is necessary to protect any child in the home from threats to their health or safety.
The day care home received its license in August 2011.
