Members of a Kansas Air National Guard Black Hawk helicopter unit will be honored in a deployment ceremony this weekend in Salina.

Three Black Hawks and 20 soldiers of the 2nd Battalion, 211th Aviation Regiment will deploy to Afghanistan later this month, where they will evacuate and transport patients, supplies and medical personnel in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The crew will receive additional training in Fort Hood before mobilizing on the one-year mission.

The deployment ceremony starts at 1 p.m. Sunday in Building 365 of the Kansas Regional Training Center, 2929 Scanlan Ave. in Salina.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

This is the unit’s first deployment to Afghanistan.
