The Haysville Heat is the top seed in the National Baseball Congress Midwest Regional, which begins with three games Friday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
Three of the six Jayhawk League teams and 7 of 9 Walter Johnson League teams are entered. Games continue through a championship game Wednesday night, with a second championship game possible Thursday.
Friday’s games involve unseeded teams. Haysville, second-seed Derby Twins and third-seed Park City Rangers will play Friday’s winners in Saturday’s second round.
The Jayhawk’s top three teams — Dodge City, Liberal and Hays — are not in the field. Neither is Walter Johnson League champion Topeka, which has already earned a berth in the national tournament.
