A second person has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 34-year-old man early Monday morning in a North Broadway apartment, police said Thursday.

The man, identified in arrest records as 23-year-old Kendall Gentry, was arrested without incident at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of North Piatt, Lt. Todd Ojile said. He is being held in the Sedgwick County Jail on a $250,000 bond on suspicion of murder.

Gentry is the man who called 911 from a pay phone early Monday morning, police said, claiming he had been kidnapped and that he had witnessed a murder.

Police met Gentry at his house on East 11th Street, and he led them to the Interdale Apartments at 916 N. Broadway. Ronald Wilson, 34, was found dead of a gunshot wound inside an apartment there.

According to the police, Gentry said he was inside the apartment when one or two men entered the apartment and shot and killed his friend. But there was no evidence of a kidnapping, police have said.

Gentry and Wilson are both documented gang members, Ojile said, but the incident appears to be a robbery and is not gang-related. He would not specify what was stolen from the apartment.

Matthew McDaniel, 22, was arrested Tuesday morning, and police have described him as the shooter in the incident.

A third person was reportedly present at the time of the robbery and shooting, Ojile said, and police have not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests in the case.

Wilson is the 13th homicide victim in Wichita this year.

Ojile said evidence in the case would be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office later Thursday
