Awning breaks woman’s fall from fifth-story window at Wichita State

A young woman who fell from a fifth-story window at the Wheatshocker Apartments at Wichita State University on Tuesday survived when she landed on an awning over the first floor.

Sedgwick County emergency dispatchers were notified about the fall at 4:10 p.m., and rescue crews arriving at the 4000 block of East 17th found the woman suffering from what were described as potentially serious injuries. She was taken by ambulance to Wesley Medical Center.

Dispatchers said Wichita State University police are investigating the cause of the fall.
