A 30-year-old Oxford man was killed in Sumner County on Wednesday after his vehicle was struck head-on by a semi-truck.

Shortly before noon, Layne C. Parson was driving a 2006 Jeep Cherokee westbound on U.S. 160, about two miles west of Oxford when his vehicle drifted into the eastbound lane a couple of times, a Kansas Highway Patrol report said.

David I. Kelley, 50, of Wichita, was driving a semi-truck eastbound and tried to avoid hitting the Cherokee but struck it head-on, the report said. Parson, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected, a highway patrol dispatcher said.

Parson was pronounced dead at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington. Kelley was injured, but the report indicated he was not taken to a hospital.
