Three restaurant opening updates
Los Tias de Beto Family Mexican Restaurant: If all goes as planned, Manuel Fernandez and partners will open their new Mexican restaurant at 1064 N. Waco on July 13. The restaurant sits next door to Juarez Bakery, where Fernandez also is a partner. It will serve the standard fajita/taco/burrito options, plus fish and steak dishes typical of Northern Mexico. The restaurants hours have yet to be determined.
Anna Murdocs Cafe: Gerard Rodriguez, whose family owns The Red Barn restaurant at Lake Afton, is about to open a cafe in the space at 209 E. William that previously housed The Daily Grind. Hes planning to officially open July 16 but may try out a soft opening a little earlier. The restaurant will serve breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The phone number will be 316-771-5051. The family also is working on opening R Coffeehouse in the former Riverside Perk space at 1144 N. Bitting.
Larry Buds Sports Bar & Grill: The west-side Larry Buds, which will fill the old Brooklyns Chophouse space at 6200 W. 21st St., is tentatively scheduled to open Aug. 1, though it could open as early as mid-July, owners say. The original Larry Buds is at 2120 N. Woodlawn.
Margaritas birthday, patio
Margaritas Cantina at 3109 E. Douglas turns 20 this month, and its treating itself to a new patio. The restaurant first opened on July 23, 1992. Twenty years later, its known for its Saturday night parties featuring house band Lotus, its sour cream enchilada and its addicting chips and salsa. Owner Don Overstake is waiting on approval from the city to put an outdoor patio on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant that faces Douglas. Hes already ordered the wrought iron fencing, and his manager, Jen Mans, says the space will fit 10 to 15 tables. (Approval is taking a bit longer than normal because Margaritas is in a historic building, she said.) Overstake hopes to have the patio ready by the end of July. On the weekend of July 20th, the restaurant will celebrate with drink specials, giveaways and more. For more information, call 316-682-2299.
Bikes and hot dogs at Hangar One
Hangar One Steakhouse, on Julia at 5925 W. Kellogg, has organized a charity biking event that will end in a free gourmet hot dog feast. The event is scheduled for July 21 and will include a 10-mile bike tour through Learjet and Wichita aircraft facilities. Following the bike tour, which is billed as family-friendly, the restaurant will put on the hot dog feast and offer live music. Participants will depart at 9 a.m. July 21 from Hangar One Steakhouse. Registration is $15 by stopping in at the restaurant. Money raised will benefit the Kansas Humane Society.
