IN WICHITA:

• A pancake breakfast and children’s parade sponsored by the Riverside Citizens Association will take place from 7 to 11 a.m. in the pagoda at Central Riverside Park, 720 Nims. Breakfast is $6 for adults and $4 for children 10 years and younger. The parade will start at 10 a.m., and admission is free.

• The Country Acres neighborhood in west Wichita will host its annual Fourth of July children’s parade at 10 a.m., starting at Cottontail and Redbarn streets and going to Hale and Country Acres streets. There is a $1 entry fee. Ribbons will be given out for best wagon and bicycle decorations and patriotic costumes. Refreshments will be served afterward.

IN SURROUNDING AREAS:

DERBY

• The Derby Kiwanis are hosting a pancake and sausage breakfast from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Derby Recreation Center, 801 E. Market in Derby. At the door, tickets are $5 for adults 13 and older and $3 for children 2 to 12 years old.

• The Derby Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion are sponsoring a Fourth of July parade at 10 a.m. beginning at Derby’s Panther Stadium and going down Madison, Georgie and Market streets, ending again at the stadium.

EL DORADO

• The city of El Dorado is hosting a Fourth of July party at 10 a.m. at Forest Park, 900 N. Taylor. Hot dogs and chips will be served. Following, there will be a free open swim at the El Dorado Municipal Pool from 1 to 4 p.m.

GODDARD

• In Goddard, people can celebrate the Fourth with free hot dogs, ice cream, moon walks and softball games from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Discovery Intermediate School, 310 S. Main in Goddard. The Stagehands, a local bluegrass/folk band, will perform from 7 to 9:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.goddardks.gov.

PARK CITY

• Park City will host a variety of Fourth of July events from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at McLean Park, 6801 N. Hydraulic. Events include a parade, ice cream social, pet show, barbecue competition, senior bingo and BMX races. Admission to the Park City Municipal Pool is free all day. HAYSVILLE

• Haysville’s Independence Day Parade will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the senior center, 711 E. Grand, and go to Haysville Middle School, 900 W. Grand. More events are scheduled throughout the day, including a fishing derby, frog races, raft races and live music. For more information, call Haysville City Hall at 316-529-5900.

GARDEN PLAIN

• Registration for Garden Plain’s 5K Freedom Run in the City Park, 600 N. Section Line Road, begins at 6 a.m. and costs $15. The run begins at 7 a.m. From 7:30 to 11 p.m., Moonlight DJ will emcee a dance in the park. For more information, call Garden Plain City Hall at 316-531-2321.

Thursday

• The “Red, White and You” blood drive, sponsored by the American Red Cross, kicks off at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Sedgwick County Zoo’s Cargill Learning Center, 5555 Zoo Blvd. The drive continues Friday and Saturday.
