Hawker Beechcraft officials notified employees today that they were issuing layoff notices to 125 workers.

In a letter to staff, the company’s leaders said:

“We continue to focus on operating the business in the normal course and being good stewards of our cash by balancing our production rate with the challenging and rapidly changing environment we continue to face. As a result, today we are issuing 60-day WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notices to approximately 125 hourly and non-hourly employees throughout several areas of the company on HBC’s Wichita campus.”

The letter goes on to say that the company will continue to evaluate its operations and circumstances, “and we will initiate reductions in force and implement furloughs as we see appropriate. We understand the distraction and interruption these announcements may cause. We encourage you to remain focused on your job, creating a safe work environment as we position the company to remain competitive in the future.”

The letter was signed by Steve Miller, Hawker Beechcraft CEO, and Bill Boisture, chairman.

Hawker Beechcraft filed a pre-arranged Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring agreement in May in an effort to re-organize the company and relieve itself of its debt.

Company officials said they would have no comment beyond the letter that was given to employees.
