Who needs another dash plaque? Probably nobody.
But we’re going to offer you one anyway, because it will be a special edition. Anyone who signs up to take part in the 10th anniversary Wichita On Wheels Reunion will get one at the registration desk at BlackTop Nationals.
The Eagle’s Wheels page has been rolling along since August 2002 and we’ll observe that anniversary as part of the BTN car show Aug. 24-26 in downtown Wichita. Our part of the festivities will take place on Saturday, Aug. 25.
Anyone who has had a car, truck, motorcycle or any kind of wheeled vehicle featured on the Wheels page is eligible to display that vehicle in our area on West Waterman, between Main and the entrance to the Hyatt Regency.
You can enter your car for judging or for display only. The folks at the registration center will help you fill out the proper form and point you in the right direction. Of course, you may want to take part in all three days of the event, which centers around Century II, where the exhibits of primary event sponsor Ford Motor Co. will be set up.
When it came time for picking artwork for the plaque, a cruise through the Wheels page photo archives on Kansas.com produced a lot of contenders.
But it was just hard to beat the image of Jerry Resser’s stunning ’56 Nomad backdropped by the triangular roof of the old Vickers gas station in Haysville. And by the way, Jerry suggested that setting himself.
We’re anticipating more than 100 cars showing up for our part of the event and a couple of them will be singled out for special show trophies.
If you need any more enticement, we will also be handing out Wheels feature car stickers to participants who have appeared on this page.
