Wichita State announced Thursday the hiring of men’s basketball assistant coach K.T. Turner, reported by Kansas.com on Tuesday.

Turner replaces Dana Ford, who took a similar position at Illinois State. Turner spent last season at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and also coached at Hutchinson Community College, Cowley College, Northern Arizona, Redlands (Okla.) Community College and Panola (Texas) College.

“K.T. has a well-respected name in college basketball, especially in our region,” WSU coach Gregg Marshall said in a news release. “I have been impressed with him while recruiting his players at Hutchinson Community College, and liked the way he leads with everyone on a personal level.”

Turner played basketball at Manhattan High, where Ken Turner, his father, served as an assistant coach at Kansas State for four seasons under Dana Altman. He played at Hutchinson Community College before transferring to Texas-Arlington and then Oklahoma City.

Turner is married to Cassaundra and they have two children, Kelis and Kenneth III.

“I am ecstatic about coaching at Wichita State and for Coach Marshall,” Turner said in the release. “I grew up in Kansas and got to know what Wichita State was about. I have always admired Wichita State.”
