A 2-year-old boy who was found wandering in southwest Wichita on Friday morning has been reunited with his mother, police say.

The toddler was spotted by a woman who saw him come into her yard at 7:42 a.m. south of 44th Street South between Meridian and West streets, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said. He did not appear to be hurt in any way, she said.

Officers were struggling to track down the child’s parents or guardian, police say, and as it turns out that’s because the boy’s mother was out looking for him, too. He had “slipped out” of their house while she wasn’t looking, Lt. Doug Nolte said.

The case is now considered closed, he said.
