The Wingnuts lost to Gary SouthShore 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon in Gary, Ind., wrapping up a six-game road trip.
Gary won 2 of 3 in the series, the first time in eight series this season the Wingnuts lost the series. Wichita (19-7) still holds a six-game lead the American Association Central Division.
Gary built a 4-0 lead after five innings against Wingnuts starter Roy Hinson (3-1). The Wingnuts scored a run in the sixth when Jake Kahaulelio scored on John Rodriguez’s double, and added another in the seventh when Steve Carrillo tripled with one out and scored on Kevin Whitehead’s groundout.
Wichita’s offense struggled for a third straight day. The Wingnuts scored just three runs on 14 hits in the three-game series.
The Wingnuts begin a six-game homestand on Friday when they play host to the Kansas City T-Bones.
