A jeweler was robbed of cash and gems when he pulled up to his house after closing the store Tuesday night, police said.
The 61-year-old man told police he was robbed by two men who approached his vehicle at about 6:15 p.m. as he was getting out at his house in the 800 block of West Mount Vernon, Lt. Doug Nolte said. They demanded the two bags he was carrying, which contained several thousand dollars in cash, jewelry worth an undisclosed amount and a handgun.
One of the men was holding a Taser, Nolte said, which he sparked to show the victim it worked. They then drove east on Mount Vernon in a white four-door car.
Investigators think the robbers may have been watching the victim’s business, TCM Jewelry at 332 E. Harry, then followed him to his house, Nolte said. Police are hoping to hear from anyone who saw suspicious activity near the jewelry store late Tuesday afternoon and early Tuesday night.
The store owner got a good look at only one of the robbers, Nolte said. He was about 6 feet tall, wore a black shirt, khaki pants and a black mask over his face. The second suspect was tall and wore dark clothing.
Anyone with information on the robbery should call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111, Nolte said.
