Opinion Line Extra (June 12)

I’m the biggest fan of the River Festival. Does anyone know if it’s going to be held this year?

The Wichita Redneckfest is getting more repulsive every year. The mixture of Bud Light, tattoo ink and greasy fast food produced nine days of lost public civility, decorum and class. Then there are the trash, dirty diapers and public urinators on my property.

It’s amazing how simple life is when you eliminate selfishness and focus on doing the right thing. Props to the one arm of the government that might be able to protect us from the others – three people accomplishing in eight days what a houseful of “professional” politicians couldn’t do in 99.

No one spends 28 years rerunning for a political office that’s a “part-time job with few benefits” and comes with “more criticism than praise” (June 11 Kansas Views) from a purely civic-minded commitment. That person would be the poster child for masochism. The testament to commitment for Mike O’Neal was one of self-interest and personal gain, rather than “dedication and thoughtfulness.”

Using President Obama’s fuzzy math: I go fishing and catch three fish the first hour before being driven off the lake by high winds. Because I was planning on fishing for four hours, I can brag that I caught 12 nice fish.

The left hammered President Bush for water-boarding terrorists. They it helped elect Obama, who is now personally supervising the selection of drone kill targets. But at least he is not pouring water in their faces before he bombs them.

I vote to get rid of chiggers and conservative Republicans. Both cause me to itch, scratch and be miserable.

My 3-year-old daughter loves fireworks, so stop trying to suck all the fun out of the Fourth of July. It’s one day a year. Suck it up and get over it. We will be setting off fireworks for our enjoyment.

Why is it allowed that recipients can spend food stamps on the overpriced goods at convenience stores?

Whatever happened to separation of mosque and state?

Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

Who failed at dressing Candice Bergen for the Tony Awards? Unbelievably frumpy for a beautiful woman and actress.

I too mourn the passing of Ray Bradbury. When he was 10, a magician told him to live forever. He will always live in on in his works and in our hearts.

I used to be disgusted. Now I’m just amused.
