As I watched the Riverfest fireworks sponsored by Airbus-Wichita, I had to wonder: Just why didn’t we want Airbus to get the tanker project and bring work to Wichita? Why did we want Boeing to get the contract and take jobs elsewhere? Maybe Todd Tiahrt and Mike Pompeo can explain that.

Riverfest isn’t what it used to be, but the zip line, paddle boats and pontoon boat rides are excellent additions. And the Eagle Medallion Hunt has returned. Other events can return with needed sponsors and volunteers. Get up and do something about it.

The River Festival was spectacular, except for one thing: The Senior Gala was opposite the ice cream social. Those are two of my favorites.

How funny to hear Kansas representatives whine about the maps the judges came up with. They should take a look in the mirror to see the culprits in this fiasco.

President Obama was correct when he said corporate America is doing fine. Stocks and executive salaries are at all-time highs. Corporations have been hoarding cash, which is now more than $1 trillion – enough to wipe out unemployment for the next decade. Enough with the talk about the poor “job creators.”

The way to maintain peace, stability and freedom is to talk softly and carry a big stick. Obama’s plans to gut our military move us in a dangerous direction. It is not sensible to talk loudly and carry a little stick.

Unless you have massive health issues beyond your control, do not expect other people to pay for your lifestyle. If you have incurred debt, pay it off. It is your debt, not mine.

People who say “only in Wichita” don’t get out much. If they did, they would know things don’t happen “only in Wichita.”

Sometimes I feel like I live in a neighboring state, as I see so many vehicles in Wichita registered in Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. Excepting some military personnel and students, vehicles owned by residents of Sedgwick County must be registered and tagged in Sedgwick County.

If you grew up thinking religion was a private matter, you were in the wrong church. We are to live like Christ, and He was as public as you can get.

Since God is the creator of all things, is it not possible that evolution is but one of God’s instruments of creation?
