PHILADELPHIA — The Wichita Wild was tested in Saturday nights road game against the New Mexico Stars and running back Tywon Hubbard was the one who provided the answers.
Hubbard who leads the league in all-purpose yards rushed for 85 yards and three second-half touchdowns as the Wild rallied from a 26-20 halftime deficit to earn its eighth victory of the season, winning 55-42 in Rio Rancho, N.M.
New Mexico (2-11), which entered the game as one of the leagues least-potent offenses, found some success early on the ground and through the air. But the Wild defense stepped up in the fourth quarter, allowing only three New Mexico points.
Wichita quarterback Phil Staback completed 10 of 14 passes for 144 yards and three touchdowns. Landon Turner was on the receiving end of two of those touchdowns and finished with 79 receiving yards.
The Wild (8-5), which has already qualified for the playoffs out of the Intense Conference, wraps up the regular season with a trip to Green Bay next Saturday.
