Wild horse adoption event set for June 1-2 in Hutchinson

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management and the Hutchinson Correctional Facility will hold a wild horse adoption event June 1-2 at the correctional facility in Hutchinson. Eight saddle-trained horses and a two-horse driving team will be available along with several untrained horses and burros.

People can preview the animals from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 1. Inmates will conduct training demonstrations throughout the day. Gates open at 8 a.m. June 2 for a competitive bid adoption starting at 11 a.m.

Buyers must be approved to adopt through an application process, which can be done during the open house. To qualify, a person must be at least 18 with no record of animal abuse and have suitable facilities for horses. A person can adopt no more than four animals.

The cost of saddle-trained horses is between $350 and $500. Bidding on the driving team will start at $1,500. Untamed horses are available for a flat fee of $125.

Skaer open house to mark retirement, welcome new vet

Skaer Veterinary Clinic will hold an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. June 2 to celebrate the retirement of veterinarian William Skaer after 43 years and to introduce the clinic’s new veterinarian, Janet Arnet.

Therapy dog testing at Family Dog center

Family Dog Training & Behavioral Center, 69th Street North and Hoover Road, will hold therapy dog sessions in June.

Two informational sessions will be at 6 p.m. June 1 and 8; the cost is $15 each.

The Therapy Dog International test will be given at 6 p.m. June 15; cost is $10.

Dogs must be up to date on all vaccinations, including rabies, DHP-PV and Bordetella.
