K-State, KU lose Big 12 openers

Kansas State and Kansas both lost their opening games Wednesday at the Big 12 baseball tournament.
Top ssed Baylor beat Kansas State 11-1 in a seven-inning run-rule game. Josh Ludy hit a two-run homer in the fourth and a three-run shot in the fifth. He drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth, tying the Big 12 tournament record with six RBIs in a game.
Baylor’s Josh Turley (9-0) limited K-State to five hits. The Wildcats’ lone run came in the sixth inning when Wade Hinkle’s groundout drove in Tanner Witt.
Kayvon Bahramzadeh (7-4) took the loss, allowing six runs in 4 2/3 innings.
K-State will play Oklahoma State at 9 a.m. today in an elimination game. The Cowboys lost to Oklahoma 1-0 in the first game of the day.
In the day’s third game, Jacob House and Scott Arthur had two hits and three RBIs apiece and Daniel Mengden pitched 6 2/3 strong innings, leading two-time defending champion Texas A&M to a 10-4 victory over Kansas.
The second-seeded Aggies (42-14) won their eighth game in a row and improved to 11-1 in May. They’ll play tonight against Missouri. The Jayhawks (22-34) play Texasat 12:30 today. Missouri beat Texas 5-0 Wednesday night.
Texas A&M used a four-run fifth inning to break open the game.
Mengden (3-3) was tagged for one unearned run. He gave up five hits, walked one and struck out five.
KU’s Frank Duncan, who came in holding opponents to a .217 batting average, allowed seven runs on 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Tyler Naquin had four hits for the Aggies. Tucker Tharp, Jordan Dreiling and Michael Suiter had two hits each for Kansas.
