Flags at half-staff Friday for Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day

  • Published Friday, May 4, 2012, at 10:43 a.m.

By executive order issued by Gov. Brownback, flags around Kansas are being flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset today in recognition of Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day.

The 30th annual Kansas Law Enforcement Memorial ceremony will be held at noon Friday on the south steps of the Statehouse grounds.

One law enforcement officer in Kansas has been killed in the line of duty over the past year. Atchison Police Department Sgt. David Enzbrenner was killed on Dec. 9 while assisting city code enforcement officers who were serving a nuisance order, state officials said. Enzbrenner, 46, was a 24-year veteran of the Atchison Police Department.

Enzbrenner joins the 266 officers already listed on the Kansas Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.
