— The Senate today plans to honor the University of Kansas Jayhawk men’s and women’s basketball teams for their accomplishments in this year’s NCAA basketball tournaments.

Four members from each team, along with some coaches, are expected to show up in the Senate chambers around 10 a.m. as lawmakers read a resolution honoring the teams.

The men’s team advanced to the championship game this year, losing to the Kentucky Wildcats. The women’s team, meanwhile, advanced to the Sweet 16, where they lost to the Tennessee Volunteers.

Both the state House and Senate honor sports teams each year, including high school championship teams. And lawmakers also pass resolutions acknowledging accomplishments of individual athletes from time to time.
